The Historic River Villages
Of The
Lower Hudson Valley

"The rivertowns" is a term used to describe the group of small villages on the eastern shore of the Hudson River in the southwestern portion of Westchester County, NY

The lower Hudson River Towns are only 30 - 40 minutes from downtown NYC but are uniquely located "off the beaten path" and along the shore of the Tappan Zee (an extra wide bay-like portion of the Hudson River). Besides offering quality suburban amenities, the lower River Towns also offer many woodland preserves (suitable for day hiking), three major trailways ( The Old Croton Aqueduct , The South County Trailway & Westchester RiverWalk ) and recreational boating & kayaking activities on the Hudson River.

These villages all have colorful histories dating back to the first explorations of the continent and all have played a significant role in the early development of our nation.

At first glance all of these villages seem very similar, but upon further investigation you will discover that each village has its own special charm and unique personality. I hope the resources on this page help you to find the village that is the right match for you and your family.
